Espen Salberg in Hong Kong Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011

‘Non Solo Bianco’ was the theme to Espen Salberg’s collection for the Hong Kong Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011. As a designer, Salberg loves dimensions, volumes, and the combination of both when the pieces all come together on a women’s body. This Bali-based Norwegian, started out his career as a ballroom dancer and instructor. Salberg’s brand Firmato catered to pieces that were easy for a dancer to move in. For ‘Bianco’, he took the same basic principles and created a ready-to-wear line that’s equally beautiful and wearable. It didn’t took crazy silhouette to make this collection work, because the uniqueness lies in the fact that all of the pieces had dimensions and volumes that’s different with every movement that the body makes – and it becomes an appropriate notion that Salberg would call ‘Bianco’ as stretch couture. Consisting of day and evening wear, the collection fit for an everyday goddess to add to their fashion repertoire. Soft to the touch and light as a feather, Non Solo Bianco is a collection that’s worth the wait for next year’s hot season.

Ali Charisma Spring/Summer Hong Kong Fashion Week 2011

Bali-based Indonesian fashion designer Ali Charisma knows the importance of making a head turning piece to showcase in the runway. For his show in Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer that took place on the 5th of July 2010, Ali Charisma brought the house down with a collection that can only be called to die for. Titled as Live It!, the collection was inspired the ever presence and the quintessential modern woman of this current day and age. The selection of color blocking on each of the pieces were put together so detailed as it is to make a nuance to the story every woman finds herself be a part of in our daily lives. The silhouette shape of each dress gave a new dimension to the body and a new dimension to the term power dressing. All the pieces has a statement by itself, and the message was further emphasized by the fact that the styling of commanding accessories, albeit enormous in size it didn’t overwhelm the whole total look. The show ended with his collection of couture/wedding gown collection that took a heavenly strut on the runway. A gathering cloud seemed to have been plucked from the sky and put as a grand closing of the Live It! show. As a representative of Indonesian fashion in the international stage, Ali Charisma has proved that he is destined for fashion greatness.

Yves Saint Laurent Fall / Winter 2010

The oufits were unusual for a catwalk show. High white dog collar on a suit, the yoked white blouse with full sleeves, the prim and modest mid-calf dresses looked like being typical for a Catholic convent. Even when a sheer black dress appeared it came with underwear formed as a cruciform bodysuit.

Platic covers put over some of the garments were intended for protection. Stefani Pilati explained:

It’s about protection. And partly, an homage to YSL and the rigorous tailleur.”

And the angel-like figures dangling on the gold chains wear inspired by silhouettes of Saint Laurent fashion photos Pilati had cut out of seventies magazines.

The collection as a whole looked good and some of the outfits would look great even in the office. Shoes were perfect and featured extremely high heels and platforms.

I loved the green sunglasses one of the models was wearing but I will never dare to don those myself.

The collection created by Stefano Pilati for Autumn/ Winter 2010/ 2011 looked like it had been inspired by religious motives though the designer himself denied this fact. But everyone who saw the range at Paris Fashion Week would tell that sober caped black forms, wimplelike head coverings, starched white cotton, hoods, and heavy chain pendants – all gave a nunlike impression.
