When 25 year old designer Hian Tjen was asked which designer he wants to emulate, his answer was the legendary Alexander McQueen. In Rejuvenation, a fashion show held on July 22 at Upper room that showcases four young talented designers, Hian Tjen called his collection Lemurian, an inspiration that came from a land eons away in time and much like its counterpart Atlantic, it was an old haven that washed away as the world turns. Unfortunately, Lemurian by Hian Tjen is a cut copy effect from his idol's own designs from the Spring/Summer of 2010 ready-to-wear line of "Plato's Atlantis", a little bit from "Widows of Culloden" from the Fall/Winter 2006 and the Spring/Summer 2007 collection of "Sarabande". Hian Tjen also declared that his collection plays to the fantasy of what a fashion designer could do, his own technical skill must have played a pivotal role to what he has created and that was a highly admirable effort. Hian Tjen just wanted to wow the crowd with his technical craftsmanship, and the crowd was definitely wowed. The absence of a universal silhouette in the collection was made up in the fact that fashion fantasy had won. Now with this brave collection that he has showcased, it is time for Hian Tjen to prove where Lemurian can be placed out of the couture genre.
